Whitelee Windfarm on Eaglesham Moor, to the south of East Kilbride, Glasgow.

Whitelee is currently (2018) the UK’s largest on-shore windfarm. Its 215 wind turbines have the capacity to generate up to 539 megawatts (MW) of electricity, enough to power just under 300,000 average-sized homes. Whitelee was developed and is operated by Scottish Power Renewables, which along with the rest of the Scottish Power operation in the UK, is owned by the Spanish energy utility Iberdrola. The windfarm was developed in three phases, with the first phase which had a generating capacity of over 300MW, supplying electricity to the national electricity grid in January 2008. The construction of Phase 2, which added a further 130 megawatts of capacity, was under way by 2009, and Phase 3, which added a further 140MW of generating capacity was completed in 2012
