Block Island Wind Farm commissioning complete

2016-12-31

Endiprev finished the commissioning of the first offshore wind farm in the United States. The debut of the United States in the offshore wind was with a pilot project, with five GE Haliade H150-6MW.

Endiprev performed the commissioning of the first offshore wind farm in the United States, the Block Island Wind Farm.

The commissioning of Block Island Wind Farm finished in December 2016. Located three miles (4.8 km) south-east of the island, the wind farm was constructed and operated by GE Renewable Energy and developed by Deepwater Wind. The pioneering offshore wind farm has five GE Haliade H150-6MW wind turbine generators. It will generate approximately 125GW per year, which is enough energy to power 17,000 households.

The Endiprev team participated in all phases of the commissioning process of the Block Island Wind Farm. As a result, we selected 24 specialized technicians, who worked around the clock with GE Renewable Energy to put the wind farm running. In fact, our profound knowledge of the GE Haliade H150 allowed our team to give support to the manufacturing assembly line in France, during the pre-commissioning phase. After the commissioning, our team also performed a four-month testing period leading to the delivery to the final customer.

The Block Island Wind Farm was the first of many offshore wind power projects under development in the United States. The country has enormous potential, especially in the Eastern Seaboard states. Endiprev US has been working with the involved companies to prepare for the upcoming challenges.
